DENVER, COLORADO
- Richard P. Arber Associates work at Gateway National Recreation
Area has begun. Gateway was established in 1972 as America's first
urban national park and is divided into three areas across two states.
The Park extends from Sandy Hook, NJ, through Staten Island, NY
and into the Jamaica Bay area of Brooklyn, NY. The recreation area
consists of a wildlife refuge, historic forts and airfields, and
the oldest military site in the nation.
Richard P. Arber Associates performed a value analysis session
for the Sandy Hook Unit. This session resulted in a prioritization
of water system upgrades for fiscal year 1999 based on funding availability.
Fiscal year 2000 improvements include enhancements to both the water
and wastewater systems. A design analysis report is currently underway
for this site which contains America's oldest operating lighthouse.
Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn was the site of New York City's
first municipal airport. The airport became a naval air station
in 1941 and was decommissioned in 1972. Water usage at the historic
field is being documented in order to apply for an exemption to
local backflow prevention requirements. If successful, the water
system project cost will be reduced by several hundred thousand
dollars.
Richard P. Arber Associates is a professional consulting engineering
firm with a National Park Service Indefinite Quantities contract
to perform work throughout the United States. The contract includes
preliminary design, design, and construction-phase services for
water, wastewater, and water reclamation. Richard P. Arber Associates
has completed eighteen projects with a construction value of over
$17 million for the National Park Service.
